making a compass

 Today we learned how to make a compass with everyday materials. the materials we used to make the compass work was: water, pin, magnet, leaf and an container. the first step was to fill your container 2 cm deep with water. second step was to put an leaf at the top of the water gently so it does not sinks. third step is to grab your magnet and your pin and scrap your pin aside the magnet not to hard tho for 3 minutes. then once the 3 minutes is done you take the pin and carefully place it on top of the leaf make sure it does not sink and wait till it has stopped moving then your done the compass should face to where north is

 one thing that affects a compass reading correctly -

objects such as keys, tables with metal legs, steel screws, phones and even heavy framed spectacles. High voltage power lines, car bodies and flashlight batteries will impact the compass too. Really anything that is built with steel metal or power.

Nevigation

 Aim:

I want to walk in a straight line with no senses.

Hypothesis:

I predict that i will turn to the side while trying to go straight.

Method:

Equipment:

• bucket
• blindfold
• Cotton wool

Instructions:

1. cover your eyes with a blindfold

2. put cotton wool in your ears

3. put the bucket on your head

4. spin in a circle 3 times

5. get your partner to line you up in the right direction 

6. begin walking in a straight line

safety:

• stop walking when you hear the whistle
• if you partner says stop you must stop
• do not walk into objects (buildings and trees and people)

Results:

the first time Maia did the challenge she went straight then started to drift off near the football post then she turned to the middle then when went to the side again.

the second time she kept on going zigzag.

then the third time she was doing really well then she turned left then right then went straight again then when she was really close to the money she turned right and nearly went into the wall.

so my conclusion is that it is impossible to walk dead straight in a line without your senses.

In wananga we are learning about being cyber smart this is lesson 1 which is how to learn, create and share on my blog site. We learnt how to make comix and made them online. I made this one about a guy and his best friend till he met's someone else and forgets about his best friend.9

Mean - median - mode

Mean:

It's an equation where you multiply all your numbers in the equation and then you would divide it by the amount of numbers that are in the equation.

Median:

The middle number; taking all numbers and picking out the one in the middle (or if there are two middle numbers, taking the mean of those two numbers). Example: 6, 2, 5 when you put it with these numbers the answer would be 5 cause when you put it in order the number 5 is in the middle.

Mode:

The mode is the number that is most common in the equation. The most in the equation is where you count all of your numbers and whatever  number is the most common ( see the most) is your answer if you are doing a text or those type of equations ( Mode equations) 

learning recap - New Zealand Gold Rush

We were learning about the gold rush. Don't know what gold is? Well the gold rush is when everyone around New Zealand would rush to get the gold but these days they just call it gold mining. At the start we got split into two groups by group levels. The first one was the level 1-2 and group 2 was level 3-4. The group 1-2 watched a film then my group 3-4 had to write about the gold rush. Me and Maia worked in a group and made it on slides.

COVID-19

                                   The return of COVID-19

Two cases of corona has been announced on the news after going 24 days without any cases.

The cases came from two people in the UK.

The government was quick to act as soon as she found out.

The two women are now in isolation in wellington region. the best place from them right now so they do not spread the virus more.

There is more people coming from different countries that has the spread of COVID-19. so they have brought back up the border for 2 weeks

There has been 22 deaths so far from the virus

the symptoms for coronavirus are: 

Most common symptoms:

fever

dry cough

tiredness

Less common symptoms:

aches and pains

sore throat

diarrhoea

conjunctivitis

headache

loss of taste or smell

a rash on skin, or discolouration of fingers or toes

Serious symptoms:

difficulty breathing or shortness of breath

chest pain or pressure

loss of speech or movement

On average it takes 5–6 days from when someone is infected with the virus for symptoms to show, however it can take up to 14 days.
